Yesterday was MLK DAY! Come on, People! WAKE UP! 

Probably the most difficult thing for an artist to do Any 'day and age' is to be ahead of their time. First of all, how would anyone even know? The marketplace being what it is, it is so inundated with worthless, untrue 'Content,’ that anything of real and lasting value becomes completely obscured by poorly executed obfuscation.

 This is very much the case in my story. More than a decade ago, I began work on a project that became the film, "COLLAR." A script idea that I held back for more than 20 years, it was to be an exposition and exploration of a condition in society that had persisted over many decades, centuries, if you will, namely, 'de facto' racism and the treatment of the majority of people of color by the political establishment overlords and their policing forces. 

 A story about a top police detective, known and honored in the community as a real fighter for justice, wherein he kills a young black man while executing a bust for drug trafficking.  An extremely 'truthful' telling of an all-too-common occurrence, it was intended to bring to light the de facto racism lurking below the surface of ‘well-intentioned’ law-enforcement officers. Our purpose was to make the world see for the first time what the truth was about how we execute people of color in the name of justice.

 It is a film that would never have been made in Hollywood because of the controversial content and the fact that no studio or network would be willing to distribute it at the time. We made it independently anyway. What we were met with upon completion was exactly what was anticipated, a stone wall. Touted by those who knew the quality of a good film, we were completely shut out. The result is that here, a decade later we are still experiencing, on an almost daily basis, exactly what the film was intended to remedy; young black men, brown men and black women are still being slaughtered by those who wear the badge. It is totally unacceptable.

 Finally, we pulled our critically acclaimed, award-winning film from 'the marketplace' because we could not find the support in the mainstream that was required to produce the desired result. The good news is, we are still in control of the product. The bad news is, unfortunately, the story remains very current and all too real. The sadder fact is... it is still 'the truth' and it is long past the time for this 'truth' to change. Like the title obviously states, "Yesterday was MLK Day!"

The Midterm Erection

 Here we are… again. Standing in line to see which ‘party’ ends up with the bigger ‘stiffy’ going forward and who gets ‘stuffed’ by the illiterate electorate. Having now witnessed more than a few of these fiascos, I believe that I am imminently qualified to grouse at this whole process.

 It no longer seems to matter how resourceful,  ingenuitive and  efficient a candidate can be. It’s All about how much capital he/she can throw at the public to bury us in their “badinage of persiflage” (as my college ‘roomie,’ Robert Hoffman, so aptly put it during the ’68 debacle that delivered ‘Dick’ Nixon to our helm). According to the MSM, over $17 billion has been dumped on this deal. And Lord knows, they should know, being the primary recipient of this shameful windfall.

 They (MSM) have ginned the National polemic to a fevered pitch like barkers at the old Barnum & Bailey side show (remember, this is NOT YET the main attraction) that featured snakes and freaks. It was a different day, but by-in-large, the same fare.

 ‘Come one! Come All! Step right up!! Watch me pull a Nazi out of your ass! Or, perhaps you prefer a demagogue out of you Donkey?!’ Or how about, ‘Behold as I shoot down a high flying ‘old-school mule’ with an elephant gun, before he takes a giant $#/+ on our Economy! Or, my favorite: ‘Watch me parse that pumpkin and his ‘garbage patch kids’ with my eyes closed, upside down, while riding a pachyderm backwards!’ (But, watch where you’re PUTIN what’s left of the right!)

 Just think of the real value of all that high priced high jinx and then ask yourself, ‘Do I REALLY deserve this, or should I surrender my “right to choose” to that bombastic body of clowns running the “clown prince’s”same tired idiot’s con on us All.

 Modern CHINA’s ancient ‘KHAN’ game.

The Emperor Xi Jinping would like to have the World believe that he is “the People’s leader.’ But, he is a

gigantic fraud. He is nothing more than a slave to his Mongolian masters’ archetype, namely the great

‘Khans,’namely Genghis and KubLai. Authoritarian imperialists and brutal demagogues, they ruled with

‘iron fists,’ while spreading terror throughout the then, known World.

Judging by his most famous Genghis and Xi share an almost identical ambition and Joy..

“The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their

wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and

daughters.”

Make no mistake, ‘the Mongol horde’ is alive and well in Beijing. Xu sees himself as a benevolent

despot, but he is a sorry excuse for a Human being. His abuse of power as witnessed in his

soulless atrocities against his “enemies” is well chronicled. Christians, Quigur, Muslims and most

notably against the Falun Gong have all fallen prey to his plot to rule the modern World, a world

without Morality, Truth, Love or Compassion

Now, he has set his sights on the AMERICAS., plundering our waters, infiltrating our systems,

hacking our intelligence and robbing us of our Intellectual Property to aggrandize his horde, just Just

look at him. the very definition of a fat cat his corpulence only exceeded by his appetite and desire to

dominate subjugate or destroy he is the worst of what humanity has to offer to a universe that seems

to stand by and silently watch but one thing is for sure God is watching and payback is b*****!

I’m sure that most of you above the age of 12 know the rejoinder to that cute quip. It has been

with us for centuries. It is a seemingly harmless anecdote, but take it from me, it just happens

to be a lie of monumental proportions.

Our greatest resource is our youth and in a rapidly aging society, they are even more valued.

We must be ‘ en garde’ to protect these precious beings. They are under attack not only from

“The Evil One,” but from drug dealers, sexual predators, human traffickers and foreign entities

even family members bent on exploiting their innocence and naivete.

It is no wonder, with all that is bombarding them, drugs, porn, sex and violence become

seemingly viable outlets for the Fear, Frustration, Desolation and Anxiety. To whom will they

turn? In whom can they place their trust? With whom will they seek comfort? The answer,

more often than not is each other, especially in these “post COVID” times, when isolation and

loneliness has marked their intimate hours.

I am particularly concerned with young ‘GenZ’ families, whose children and their siblings are

approaching puberty and beyond. These are very vulnerable young bodies, loaded with raging

hormones, seeking comfort and confidence wherever it may be found, so that even the most

unspeakable acts and primal secrets will be kept silently between them.

While parents struggling with their own demons of how to raise a family responsibly, pay the

bills, navigate the workplace, handle their own loose desires, bad habits, substance abuse still

try toprovide an adequate education that will enable their offspring to cope with an unstable

future, at best. Without proper guidance, they (the kids) too often, seek greater solace in each

other.

Lacking sufficient evidence from their elders that there is any real danger in so ‘educating

themselves’ or their siblings in the ways of the flesh, they embark on some rather daring,

tenuous and perilous adventures that may lead them down some very dark paths on the way to

adulthood. They (their burgeoning sexual desires) may ultimately be ones that they are unable

to contain, control or even comprehend, as the experiments become more profound and

complex. Many times, their initially ‘harmless explorations’ can result in the worst possible

outcomes, promiscuity, pregnancy, frustration, anger, violence (both self-inflicted and against

others), jealousy, mental illness and quite possibly, murder or suicide.

I know that this a somewhat bleak view of our current social and sociological circumstances,

but I implore all parents with children between the ages of 10 and 20 to be diligent and vigilant

checking for signs of abhorrent behavior in your children, their friends and others. And, as the

saying goes, “if you see something, say something.” There is counseling and treatment

available. If you are victimizing your own with your depraved and prurient pursuits, STOP

IMMEDIATELY! Seek out help in dealing with these issues in counseling, professionally, at

church, in school or privately, but DO NOT IGNORE the signs. You know them when you see

them. You will feel them in your gut. Don’t let your strange feelings make ‘stranger bedfellows’

of them. GET THEM AND YOU HELP, NOW!

10 Years After wasn't just a band!

  Although I loved Alvin Lee, God rest his soul, it's also the time span since we premiered our first feature film, "Collar." Intended to awaken  awareness of the not-so-long dormant monster we know as 'Racism' like almost all socially conscious and controversial "entertainment," the commercial powers in Hollywood stuffed our product, hailed by one of their own as an "epic masterpiece," it will now re-emerge to show what might have been. 

Not long before Trayvon Martin, longer before Eric Garner, and years before George Floyd, our film revealed an awful truth about the woeful lack of respect displayed in the decades since by innumerable police organizations towards communities of color. We truly believe had the gatekeepers on the "Left Coast" been more conscientious and committed to the truths expressed in "Collar,", some of the above mentioned horrors endured by all of our communities would have been seriously altered, if not avoided altogether. 

We are re-releasing this film, not as a condemnation of those modern American nightmares but as a reminder of what we lose when we pay no heed to history's lessons and the underlying truths that propels them to the forefront. Unfortunately, "Collar" is not the first cautionary tale to be largely ignored by the powers that be, we can only hope and pray that in the future, voices such as ours on topics such as these will be heeded or at least noted.

 To Everyone,

This has been by far, one of the most bizarre periods of my life. Beginning Three (3) years ago on this date, after finishing the rough draft of my play “Supper with Ja,” and launching the project, the World has been turned upside down and back, shaken hard by COVID-19, George Floyd’s murder, the January 6th Insurrection, Murder in the streets, Fires, Floods, Drought, Famine and more war. Yet, there we were! We made it through another tumultuous year. 

After being nearly obliterated by COVID in 2019, having seen this country ravaged by virus and viral social media insanity, I thought that 2020 would be the year that, as the number itself seemed to indicate, that everything would come clearly into focus. In some strange and inexplicable way, it was exactly what transpired. Pandemic panic, unpreparedness for medical crises, political upheaval and the subversive uprising  by “White Nationalists” against our Democracy, prompted and promoted by a ‘Pumpkin with legs,’ made our insufficiencies and prejudices plainly emerge before our astonished eyes. The good news there is, we were mature enough as a society to absorb the blows and move on. 

That led us to this past year, which started with violent, armed insurrection intent on overthrowing our duly elected government, but under new management, gradually began to ‘right’ our listing ‘ship of state’ and begin to show us a path to victory over Disease, Fear and Ignorance. We were remembering how to win back what had been being nefariously usurped from us, our Hope, our Dignity and Humanity, our Spirit. We are emerging into a new era. It’s as if the past 3 years have been the ‘set-up’ for this coming year.

Welcome to 2022: The year of the ‘Big Pay-off!”

Although the last two weeks have been somewhat of a nightmare and at the same time a dream come true. God bless you One and All. Thank GOD and you for the INCREDIBLE WORK that is being done all across this great land! As I am inching closer to a MAJOR breakthrough, largely the result of the guidance of the amazing team at Modern-musicians (Thank you, Michael Walker.) Moreover, we All seem to be climbing out of the ooze and the ‘blues.’ We must not let this persistent pandemic and the specter of more looming disaster rob us of our rewards. PEOPLE! GET YOUR VACCINES!1

I for one, fully “vaxxed,” am eternally grateful for my incredible well-being. 

In fact, I have never been more prolific, focused and empowered than I am right now, turning out an incredible volume of ‘intellectual property,’ daily. So much so, that when my beautiful wife Nan asked what I wanted for Christmas and I said, “another corporation,” she gave me one! It was formed to accommodate my voluminous output. What is even better is that ‘John Q. Public’ is actually beginning to respond. (Even though I have been 'cooling my heals' in Fb jail the past 2 weeks, almost 400,000 people have viewed my first video of my ballad, "Too Old To Be Too Good" since November.) 

Truth be told, our parent company, Willy-Gilly Productions, Inc. has three (3) plays, four (4) films, two (2) albums and three (3) books ALL in various stages of funding and production as I write this. Investors take note! 

There are many more from whence that cometh! I am ready and poised to start turning some major sales as a result. It's just a matter of time and a little more money. I will finish my 1st album next month and will be mounting several more music videos in the coming weeks. I share the work and MMs fabulous system with every musician (big and small) within my voice’s reach. It's just too good to hog. Moreover, I love the Spirit of this tribe of fellow actors, writers, filmmakers, artists and musicians! It smacks of a God that I know, the One who made us All. It's his victory... and YOURS!

 Let's get one thing very straight from the top... LITERALLY! God sent that child to All of us, regardless of gender, color, creed, nationality or sexual orientation. He had no prejudice upon arrival. He had no agenda other than to offer us Peace, Joy, Harmony and the possibility of Eternal Life. 

There were no political considerations, or permissions required, other than threat of execution by King Herod I. No big deal, right? Was he expected? The wait was ONLY 700 years! But, who was counting? 

It was the prophet Isaiah who foresaw his arrival THERE. By the time he got here, everyone wanted a warrior on Prommetheus' chariot, not a babe wrapped in swaddling cl. They thought he would arrive in a palace, not a shepherds field in a food hamper for the livestock.

Well, guess what? He got here how he got here. He did what was foretold to us that he would and then left the rest to us, his disciples. So, what are you doing to honor him on this occasion? Or, ANY occasion for that matter!? And, what will you do when he returns? 

NEWS FLASH: HE'S ON HIS WAY! 

Check the signs! They are ALL there. Read All about it in the "Book of Revelation." Then, get busy. It's late, but He never is! And, "You better be good! You better not cry! You better not pout! I'm telling you why..."

Everything is everything, or... it is nothing at all!

 Being a ‘modern artist’ of Any kind, in this day and age, is the greatest opportunity on Earth. It also presents some incredibly complex challenges. Having faced, survived and thrived through almost all of these challenges that have arisen in my life and career over the past half-century, suffered the slings and arrows of family, friends, colleagues and many who have fancied themselves my ‘competitors,’ you may find that this blog might have considerable gravity. I assurer you, your journey will not be mine, but you will, more than likely, face at least some of them.

For you, who think that you will somehow be spared Any challenges in the course of the pursuit of your ‘art,’ you are either a supreme egoist, a misguided naïve or totally delusional. The cultural landscape is littered with the likes of you poor souls.

There is no armor that you can don that will protect you from jealousy, vanity, ignorance and stupidity, both others’ and your own. These horrors pervade the world of art and the World at large. We (artists) do not do well when having to operate behind these obstacles, never mind when struggling to pay rent, eat and transport ourselves from place to place.

IN the next several weeks, I will be exploring some of these ‘challenges’ and how they may be effectively addressed. Mind you, I would never deign to pontificate here. There are few who have made as many ‘faux pas’ than I have. I view it as a minor (or maybe ‘Major’) miracle that am I not only still productive, but even alive. Believe me, it could easily and probably should have been otherwise.

Regardless, my first suggestion is that you may want to adopt a philosophy that embraces the idea that, ‘I don’t know what I can’t do.’ With that instilled in your psyche, you are just liable to try and even do Anything that is your ‘Heart’s desire.’ 😎

Its liable to give you gas!

 About this flap over 'Inflation' and 'gas prices:' What a crock of REPUBLIKKKON BS! Your 'corporate overlords' pulled the same shizzle on Jimmy Carter back in '77, when he tried to wean our sorry butts off of foreign oil, get us into wind and solar ( NO Friggin' FRACKING) and then sabotaged his attempt of a rescue in the "Iran Hostage Affair." ('Shrub #1' was CIA chief!) All to get that phoney wind bag full of Hollywood manure (Ronny Reagan) installed, so the 'fat cats' could run their 'dinosaur deals,' push coal and pull another banking scam, all while QUADRUPLING (4X) the National Debt to $3.2 TRILLION! (It was $800 billion when Jimmy stepped down.) That put us in a 'debt spiral' that has left us here. Ah! 'Repulselikkkon revisionism!' (January 6, 2020 never happened, right? YEAH! FAR RIGHT!) Not to mention, "Iran Contra" and the "Star Wars Initiative," you can stick those cuties where the sun don't shine! Oh! I almost forgot, Repubs don't read, they run lip and rip-offs! Look it up! ESAD. 

"Adele! What the H€££!"

 It's been less than a week since the release of Adele's latest smash hit album, "Adele 30" and I'm still not sure what to think. It's been 2 days since one of the most pricey and over produced, over promoted  launches ever from Viacom/CBS. The album has some fine, slick production, but it just sounds so 'Adele' it left me asking, 'Where's the growth?' You would think after all the soul vomit that she dumped in Oprah's abundant lap, she would want to thank God (or, at least someone else) for helping pull her through it all. Instead, it was a typical Hollywood 'One Note Symphony' here. (You know, "Me! Me! Me! Me!") Regurge and purge, those Tinseltown' staples were rolled out in full regalia.  Her incredible pipes not withstanding, she sounds much like every other pop artist out there. I can barely tell the difference between her spiel and those of Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber. (Look out, Billie. They're coming to replace your 'Eilish' with 'eyelashes!'). I'm personally interested more in her guts, not her girth or how it was packed into that gown. What about using your influence in a two hour, globally broadcast program to affect some real issues on the planet, besides your dress size. How about some of those things with which that young beautiful boy will no doubt have to negotiate, like global warming, pandemics, world hunger, small stuff, ya' know. Hey girl! How about growing your Consciousness, while shrinking your outfits. You seem to me to have lost some of that 'soul' that made you great. I trust that God is watching and HE will grab her before she falls into the 'Helltown abyss,' at which she is now obviously teetering. What do you guys think? 💖🙏

I graduated the Neighborhood Playhouse 50 years ago, this past May. My final production at the school was, “The Hawk" by Murray Mednick, directed by a 1st year 'apprentice' teacher named Fred Kareman. I went on to quietly have a long and very successful career as an actor, writer, director, producer, singer and teacher. I'm still in the midst of it. 

I loved working with Fred, Bill Esper, Bill Alderson, but most of all, Sandy. It seems so strange to call him that. To me, he was ALWAYS "Mr. Meisner," even after several years and a string of major roles, including co-starring with academy award winner, Sandy Dennis and James Broderick (also an NP alum) as 'Stanley' in 25th Anniversary the Chicago (where it premiered) revival of "A Streetcar Named Desire" at the tender age of 23. Even, when he called me into his office for a meeting to tell me how insane I was to have done the part, I addressed him as "Mr. Meisner."

He called me on the carpet for attempting to play a role, so iconic that he he said, “No one should EVER play that role, again!” It completely altered the American and the entire World concept of ‘acting’ forever. 

I pointed out that Brando was only 23 when he did it and, in fact, it was he (Meisner) who had instilled in me the idea of "taking big risks" and throwing myself into Any role with everything I had. He sat there quietly, pondering my defense. Then, he looked up at me and said, “That wasn’t a risk, it was tantamount to ‘career suicide.’ He told me, “If that had been here in New York, the lions (critics) would have had me for breakfast.” He then congratulated me for surviving the run. 

I asked him where he had heard about the production. He told me Jimmy Broderick (Matthew’s dad who had played the role of ‘Mitch’ and was a great actor himself, had talked to him. I asked what Jim had thought about my effort. He said, “he thought you were, young.” Then, he released me back onto the ‘mean streets.' 

I thought about what he had told me for a moment or two, then I remembered what Tennessee Williams’ brother, Dakin, had told me after watching my performance on opening night. He said, “You know, I saw Marlon’s ‘Stanley’ opening night and I liked yours more.” After having his words echo in my ear, that “mean street” and Sandy’s critique lost some of their bite. DPW

Hard to believe

 It is hard to believe that we are where we are today. Our Capitol is under siege by our own, 'soon-to-be'  former president, his minions gathering to further threaten our Republic, which they assaulted only last week. The attempted 'coup' vanquished by American democratic loyalists, the Fascist wannabe has retreated to the hinterland to assemble his hoard for the coming conflagration. Horrific as it may be, it pales in comparison with the potential threat of actions for this weekend's MLK Day celebration and the impending Inauguration.

The truly dismaying prospect of an armed insurrection in our Nation's seat of power is the possibility of losing our democracy to an army of infidels whose sole aim seems to be putting a narcissistic autocrat on a newly fashioned throne for life. Beyond that is the realization that this is a concerted effort to overthrow our entire society and all that we have worked at for nearly three centuries, now. There is little doubt in my mind that we are being exposed to the consequences of some of our leaders being compromised by foreign powers, who have gotten their hooks into our highest ranking officials. 

We will prevail and eliminate the threat FOR NOW. But, we can NEVER ALLOW another self-aggrandizing charlatan to 'con' our electorate into giving them  the keys to our coffers and greater treasures without the proper vetting and complete disclosure.  NO  TAXES, NO TICKET! NO TRANSPARENCY, NO EMPOWERMENT! NO OPENNESS, NO OVAL OFFICE! We must make 'Honesty,' NOT ONLY "the best policy," it MUST be made, 'THE ONLY POLICY!' It should be just that simple. 'Nuff said! 

I have been asked to make a blog about how COVID has impacted my industry. I have been in Broadcast & Entertainment (B&E) for 50 years. The ONLY other event vaguely reminiscent of this horror was the “triple witching” event of 1988. It shut our industry down and forced me to shutter a project into which I had sunk a bundle. The WGA dragged on for nearly 6 months. It was devastating.

The difference now is “streaming,” the internet and COVID. Back then, the internet was in its infancy
and “mobile streaming” was ‘non-existent.’ I had been pushing for the development of ‘interactive
multimedia,’ as new technologies were beckoning a new dawn to suit the “Next” and All future
generations. It was a turbulent era that has yet to resolve some very large issues, but at least we had
the, “THEATER!”

Where this series of events greatly differs is the fact that this one is literally a, “life or death” game
changer. It has thrown the breaks on All production of every kind. Will it “end?” YES! Will our $2.7
TRILLION a year recover? One wants to believe that will happen, but only time will give us that answer.

The” good news” is that we are learning to play “differently” for now. Soon, we will see who are those who used this time to discover and explore, “The NEXT NORMAL.” (As if, there was EVER A “NORMAL”to start with. Peace. 🙏

Professional Master Acting Classes Offered in the Hudson Valley: Meisner Method Comes Alive

For very nearly 50 years, I have based my entire Life, Craft and Career on the teachings of this man (see left). He was my mentor, my teacher and, I dare say, my friend. His teachings were a beacon to me that showed the way to an extraordinary career and a truly amazing life. 

We have seen his life's work come to dominate the landscape of professional 'actors' training the world over. No one has been more instrumental in the coaching of 'award- winning' talent than, Sanford "Sandy" Meisner. 

More Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Tonys, Drama Desks, People's Choices, , BAFTAS, et al have been won by 'Meisner Method' actors than ANY others. Major elements of his 'technique' are taught in virtually EVERY acting school, college, university and conservatory throughout the world.

GOSHEN, NY:  Acting Anyone, established by Willy-Gilly Productions, Inc nearly a decade ago by the producers of the movie “Collar” was initially intended to provide training of local talent for use in their many future productions. Since then, the program has trained nearly 200 of the area's finest talent in the basic technique of Sanford Meisner. “Acting Anyone” was awarded “Best Performing Arts Company 2018 Goshen”

The Meisner Technique is currently taught in most college and university acting programs and professional schools throughout the world. Mr. Wilson, a graduate at the Neighborhood Playhouse Class of 71 was trained by the master himself as well as with Meisner’s protégé, William Esper (William Esper Studios). Between them, David has logged hundreds of hours of actors training experience.

David’s extensive career spans nearly five decades. He has starred in and has been prominently featured as an actor in hundreds of productions in the US and abroad, working with such well known names as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Angela Lansbury, Charlton Heston, Colleen Dewhurst, Ed Asner, Josh Brolin, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and dozens more.

A noted vocalist as well, and former student of Seth Riggs ("Singing for the Stars"), he also provides the same voice training Riggs has used to train Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, and hundreds more of America's most recognizable voices. In addition to acting he has written, produced, and directed many productions of all types.

Acting classes are currently conducted at St James Episcopal Church, 1 St James Place, Goshen, NY. The program is accepting applications for enrollment in the January 2019 sessions, which may be expanded (depending on interest and supplemental funding), to include a number of additional courses in cinematography, sound recording, voice over acting, directing and writing. Voice and private classes are conducted at the offices of Willy-Gilly Productions at 222 Greenwich Ave., Goshen, NY.  Enrollment is limited.

THE TRUTH WILL OUT

"A Deeply Moving, Authentically Portrayed Story"  Las Vegas Tribune

 

We live in an age of instant communication that invites a constant barrage of information, that assaults the senses and often numbs our Human sensibility.  Our current President is perhaps the most violent and certainly the most prolific offender of this abuse of privilege, regarding what we see and hear. I call it "an offense" because it is truly a privilege and not a human right. 

In these times of social media and 'the web', it is self-evident that Truth can become obscured by the sheer volume of thoughts, the proliferation of "fake news" and the abundance of opinions freely expressed publicly by All. That in mind, it is easy to minimize the importance of some things that absolutely must be said, things that cannot be swept aside any longer.  Among issues such as War, Poverty, Disease and Corruption, we are once again confronted by 'the Truth' about the racial divide between our citizens of color (any color), the authorities that we have empowered to protect and defend us All and recent events that have so clearly defined that chasm. 

Recently, we (Willy-Gilly Productions) recently participated in a film festival with our independent, feature film, "Collar." We have now been 8 years in the process of developing, funding, producing and finding a market, finally deciding it would serve us all best to ‘self-distribute.’  This is simply due to the self-appointed custodians of the ‘pop’ cultural landscape (namely major movie studios, and corporate media) have been, at best, indifferent and mostly unwilling to confront the issues for any other reason than to self-aggrandize their own 'coverage,' hawk their advertiser's products and shamelessly exploit the American commercial marketplace.

For some years now, we have been engaged in completing, testing and promoting our film, which has ALWAYS received overwhelmingly positive response from the Public, even as we have been 'stonewalled' by the industry.  In the years that we have been seeking adequate outlets to provide the general public with some truth about these issues, we have learned that the corporate media agenda does not only include a suppression of truth, but an outright obstruction of fact.

Once again, now in its final version, our film has found its mark.  While our purpose was not to win awards, we have been rewarded with a reinforcement of our honest, creative vision. The Las Vegas Tribune (the first media of any kind to view, "Collar") reviewed our film, which was seen by the largest audience to attend the High Desert International Film Festival (HDIFF) and their reviewer wrote the following:

“Collar,” written, produced and directed by David P. Wilson, was a deeply moving, authentically portrayed story, based on true incidents, about a “good guy” detective at the end of his career, who makes a tough choice, split-second decision in the midst of a murder suspect chase and shoots a “well loved in the community” young black man. The ensuing devastation all-around rings true. A touchy subject handled with equanimity, this film serves as a platform for community healing when viewed and discussed. -- Marianne Donnelly Las Vegas Tribune 

Marianne's insight and perceptions of this film are exactly what was intended from the beginning, to create an awareness and open the channel for sincere investigation of our deepest thoughts about those who do not look like us, regardless of which "us" we may be.  We will continue to carry this fight for as long as it takes to expose these social scars, treat our damaged souls and heal this wounded Nation.
